The Nobbies Centre on Phillip Island is open again.

Remember the Nobbies Centre, built on the site of the old cafe atop the cliffs looking directly over the big lump of land called The Nobbies?

It was open only for a short time then went into disrepair for some years. It has been completely refurbished with state of the art technology allowing visitors a birds eye view of what is regarded as the second largest Australian fur seal colony.

Using this technology, visitors can watch about 20,000 fur seals that inhabit the Seal Rocks, about half a kilometer out to sea from The Nobbies.

There is plenty of information about the seals available in the Nobbies Centre. Visit the website here.

Western Port Marina Restaurant is open again.

This is really good news. The Western Port Marina Restaurant, formerly known as `The Anchorage` and `Chinos` is open again, this time for the long haul.

Wayne and his crew are set to make your next evening a night to remember. HastingsWatch has dined there several times recently and the food and service are just great. There is a wonderful atmosphere about the place... it is quiet, restful, you can actually talk to your partner without shouting, a full menu is presented, as is a well stocked bar.

The friendly staff make the event really enjoyable. And you never know who you may meet! We chatted with some boaties who had just crossed Bass Strait in `stink boats` i.e. motor boats. They had an extremely rough crossing from Tassie, and welcomed the opportunity to rest up at the restaurant and bar.

A fire started in bushland directly behind houses in Warranqite Crescent, Hastings, about 4pm. Fanned by a sea breeze, the fire was under control in less than an hour, thanks to the very prompt action by the CFA. 12 Units attended the blaze.
